The purpose of this report was to provide a critical review of the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI), specifically focusing on the efficacy of this personality assessment instrument in identifying clinical depression among populations drawn from various age cohorts, both genders, and other demographically unique groups. To that end, a review of relevant, current, and historic literature on the MMPI and its newer version, the MMPI-2, was conducted. The hypothesis tested in the project was: both the MMPI and the MMPI-2 are empirically proven to be sound assessment measures for identifying clinical depression in a number of disparate populations.
