Paper Abstract:
Discusses three key ideas. Jung's theories of the nature of the unconscious mind. His disagreement with Freud and others regarding the hidden content of repressions of the unconscious mind. His theory of where dreams come from. The collective unconscious. Dreams as symbolic wish fulfillment.

Paper Introduction:
In the discussion in the chapter “Carl Jung: The Personal and the Collective Unconscious,” Baynes details the steps that Jung went through in assembling his theories on dreams and the unconscious. Although Jung and Freud had collaborated from 1907-1912, by the end of that five years Jung had developed an opposing theory of the nature of the unconscious (Baynes, 1958, p. 341). This paper will discuss three of Carl Jung’s key ideas in regards to the nature of the unconscious which are touched upon in this article with a view as to which one is the most persuasive in character. The first idea Jung postulates is that of the existence of the unconscious mind. Unlike the conscious mind, which may be proven to exist through common sense and experience, the unconscious mind contains hidden content that only surfaces

Paper Abstract:
Compares Freudian & Jungian psychoanalytic theories & the role of the libido in depression.

Paper Introduction:
The Concept of Depression in Freud and Jung Sigmund Freud argues that although there exist many different clinical forms of depression, or melancholia as he calls it, each form is characterized by an internal guilt caused by the loss or devaluation of a sexual object (Freud, 1966, 531). An understanding of several terms as Freud uses them is necessary for a complete understanding of his theory of depression. Basically, Freudian psychoanalytic theory argues that our psychological life is determined by our conscious and unconscious life (Freud, 1960, 3). Our conscious life, however, is transitory, in the sense that concepts or memories that are conscious or manifest at any given time may become preconscious or unconscious at a later time. If ideas are preconscious, Freudian theo

Paper Abstract:
Comparison of the Jungian & Freudian conceptions of the mind.

Paper Introduction:
Jung's conception of the mind quite naturally colored his conceptions of mental processes and of mental disease. For most people, the concepts of Freud are more familiar than those of Jung, and there are some similarities as well as differences between the two. Basically, though, they had a different conception of the human mind. Freud sees human nature and human behavior as produced by "the irremediable antagonism between the demands of instinct and the restrictions of civilization" (Strachey in Freud, 1966, 4). Human nature in the state of nature is thus one thing, while human nature in civilization has been reshaped and produces a different form of alienation in the Freudian conception. As the individual develops during the life cycle, the ego, or the sense of self, changes from encompassing everything to detaching itself from the external world and thus

Paper Abstract:
Life, career & major contributions (collective unconscious, synchronicity) of 20th Cent. anti-Freudian Swiss psychoanalyst.

Paper Introduction:
Carl Gustav Jung (1875-1961) is most famous as one of the first psychoanalysts to break with Freud's vision of human instincts as either sexual or self-preservative in nature and to develop a less mechanistic psychoanalytic theory of his own. In addition to reworking Freud's concept of the conscious, the preconscious and the unconscious Jung developed the idea of a collective unconscious in which, he claimed, all human beings shared a link with their primeval past. Jung subsequently developed his own theory of personality in which the idea of the collective unconscious led him to the conclusion that regression, rather than being maladaptive, was a helpful psychological strategy. Jung's ideas were developed in the context of his broad interests in the literatures, religions and mythologies of the world. This produced an attempt to gain a universal

Paper Abstract:
Life, career, theories, focusing on dream analysis.

Paper Introduction:
Carl Jung's approach to dream analysis is becoming increasingly popular in modern culture. Jung believed that dreams held the key to personal wholeness, and could be interpreted not only from the patient's personal experience, but from a mythological perspective as well. Denounced by critics who considered his logic fuzzy and his theories mystical, Jung was subsequently overshadowed by his former mentor, Sigmund Freud. Today, even academics have begun to lend more credence to Jung and his unique blend of psychology and spirituality. Born in 1875 in Switzerland, Jung experienced striking mythological dreams and visions even as a youth. Fascinated by death, nature, and philosophy, Jung was a solitary youth, who invented imaginary playmates. Although an avid reader, Jung found school boring and, as an adolescent, developed fainting

Critical review of 1923 work on extraversion & introversion, thinking & feeling types, intuition, individuation.

Paper Introduction:
Psychological Types by Carl G. Jung: A Critical Analysis Swiss psychiatrist Carl. G. Jung was interested in the psychic life of man. He focused in his writings and studies on the development of human personality as evidenced in mythology, religion, and culture. His unified, holistic approach to the study of individuals precipitated the development of theories which distilled concepts from a myriad of sources, including Eastern religions, alchemy, sociology, history, and philosophy. Jung wrote prolifically. One of his contributions was the work Psychological Types: The Psychology of Individuation, which described various types of people according to Jung's psychological theories. It is the purpose of this paper to summarize and critically analyze Jung's book, Psychological

Paper Abstract:
Compares psychological theorists on human nature, reality, role of therapy & therapist.

Paper Introduction:
Abraham H. Maslow, Albert Ellis, and Carl Gustav Jung provide theories of human nature which present the client as capable of self-discovery and actualization, The three theorists regard the human being as capable of personal happiness without intensive therapeutic counseling. The counselor is beneficial as a source of insight, but cannot "cure" the client from without. Maslow, Ellis, and Jung each had individual methodologies by which the client could achieve personal fulfillment, yet they are alike in their belief that a person need not be subject to unconscious, irrational forces against one's will. Jung believed that alchemy, astrology, Buddhism, certain primitive rituals and religions, mythology, and even psychotic hallucinations can shed light on personality. Such experiences, although not necessarily rational, are beneficial to an

Paper Introduction:
SIGMUND FREUD VERSUS CARL JUNG "The latest developments have convinced me that my views are in such sharp contrast to the views of the majority of the members of our Association that I can no longer consider myself a suitable personality to be president" (McGuire, 1974, p. 358). On April 20, 1914 Carl Jung proclaimed the final break between him and his colleague Sigmund Freud. The paths of these two psychoanalysts were destined to cross as each progressed in his studies concerning the way the human mind functions. Sigmund Freud studied various fields at the University of Vienna and after receiving a degree in medicine became a clinical neurologist in 1881. He eagerly began work with Viennese physician Josef Breuer and conducted experiments that would lead to the development of psychoanalysis. Examining
