Paper Abstract:
Advances in energy sources, cost factors, accessibility & maintaince. Discusses 2 solar buildings.

Paper Introduction:
It is probable to assume that one day in the near future, much of the world’s electricity will be generated by solar energy. Sunlight is decidedly advantageous over fossil fuels as an energy source in three significant ways; it is abundant, long-lasting, and nonpolluting. However, today the primary challenge with solar energy hinges upon cost effectiveness. Until solar energy can be made economical for businesses and private citizens, other fuel sources will retain the inside track that they have held for centuries. Fortunately, solar energy technology has made great strides in recent years, culminating in buildings such as the Four Times Square Building in New York City- a building which is its own freestanding, environmentally friendly electric utility. Photovoltaic panels, gas fired absorption H-vac systems, high-

Paper Abstract:
In building a house. Uses, effectiveness, types, functions.

Paper Introduction:
INCORPORATING SOLAR ENERGY IN THE BUILDING OF A HOUSE The incorporation of solar energy into the building of a house can greatly reduce the cost of heating or cooling the house, even when used along with conventional means of energy production and uses. This paper will discuss several different aspects of incorporating solar energy into residential living quarters and will touch on the subjects of sighting and orientation of the house and solar panels, the window locations and. overhang, plants and vegetation, the solar collectors or cells, and thermal mass storage. The usefulness of solar energy will also be discussed.

Paper Abstract:
Impact of sun's energy on the layers of Earth's atmosphere. Physics, absorption & evaporation, sunspots, ozone layer, magnetism.

Paper Introduction:
SOLAR RADIATION AND THE ATMOSPHERE As the earth's nearest star, the sun determines much of what happens on the earth--its energy is what allows continued life on the earth, and its actions create the earth's weather, in the form of wind, clouds, and other climatic examples. The sun's warmth and energy are so important that without them the earth would become encased in ice (1:74). However, the earth is not completely open to solar radiation. The different layers of the earth's atmosphere provide different interactions (and different results from those interactions) with solar radiation. The earth's atmosphere, the receiving end of the sun's radiation, is divided into four parts: the troposphere, which is the bottom-most layer and extends from the earth's surface to about 11 kilometers high (at which point the stratosphere

Paper Abstract:
Advantages: cost factor; inexhaustible source; alternative to oil; pollution-free; non-monopolistic. Types & applications.

Paper Introduction:
SOLAR ENERGY Energy is a crucial building block for civilization: Without reliable sources of power, modern technology would not exist. Reliability does not always equal availability, however, and the search for renewable or inexhaustible energy sources that also are relatively inexpensive, nonpolluting and available to everyone has become of paramount importance - enter solar energy. This alternative to fossil fuels has all of these advantages and comes in several forms and applications, adaptable to most uses, and as part of the earthos domain (rather than one person's - or one country's - oil field), it is nonmonopolistic. Solar technology operates on different principles, depending on the type of system used. For example, active solar systems use mechanical means such as solar collectors, pumps and fans to

Paper Abstract:
Pros & cons. Energy consumption, environmental issues, costs, compared to other sources, technology, applications, outlook.

Paper Introduction:
This paper will discuss the pros and cons of solar power. Solar power will be discussed in depth in the perspective of the overall worldwide energy and environmental situation. The subject of solar power will be brought up to date by the inclusion of articles written within the past year. Energy consumption may shift from source to source over time. For example, the United States went from a nation generating most of its heat energy from wood in the nineteenth century to a nation utilizing coal energy in the early twentieth century. Then, the majority of energy consumption shifted to oil in the mid-twentieth century, in part because of the prominence of the internal combustion engine (MacKenzie 1-30). The 1980s are a time when environmental awareness has combined with the search for fossil fuel alternatives (U.S. Dept. of Energy, 1981).
